These videos deal with ratio – GCSE exam questions and are aimed at around grade 3, although they can be a little challenging. There’s quite a lot of words, and it’s good to try to ‘sketch’ out the question to help with understanding.

Here’s the questions for video 1:

1. Write each of these ratios in their simplest form:
a. 4 : 6
b.15 : 21
c. 72 : 45
d. 24cm : 36cm
e. 350g : 2kg
f. 42p : £1.36
2. To make grey paint, black and white are mixed in the ratio 5 : 3. How much black would be needed with:
a. 6 litres of white?
b. 12 litres of white?
c. 21 litres of white?
3. To make salad dressing you mix olive oil and vinegar in the ratio 5 : 2. How much olive oil is needed with:
a. 10ml of vinegar?
b. 30ml of vinegar?
c. 42ml of vinegar?
4. Sarah works as a waitress. Each week she splits her wage into spending money and savings in the ratio 7 : 3.
a. One week, Sarah earns £130. How much should she put in her savings?
b. The next week, Sarah put £42 into her savings. How much did she earn in total that week?
5. The ratio of men to women at a football match is 11 : 4. How many men were there if there are:
a. 2000 women?
b. 8460 women?
6. Divide £75 in the ratio 2:3
7. Divide £255 in the ratio 2:5:8

Here’s the questions for video 2:
8. Arni, Bethany and Carrie save some money in the ratio 3:4:9. Carrie saved £150 more than Bethany.
a. Show that Arni saved £90
b. Show that the total amount of money saved is £480
9. Brass is made from copper and zinc.
The ratio of the weight of copper to the weight of zinc is 3:4.
Simon made 24.5g of brass. Calculate the weight of copper that Simon used.
10. Carrie and Josh shared some money in the ratio of 2:7. Josh received £30 more than Carrie. How much money did they each receive?
