Solve algebra problems step by step the Mathway..way

January 21, 2014 by Simon Leave a Comment

A step by step approach to solve algebra problems, can be a little difficult for some students ..

Mathway is an excellent online resource that encourages you to see a logical progression through each of the steps. As algebra represents around a quarter of a typical exam paper, it’s useful to have a solid ‘step by step’ approach that can be used to solve many of the GCSE questions.

In a number of my videos I talk about ‘always working down the page‘, ‘showing your method‘ and ‘putting an equals sign in the middle.’ All are useful in helping to develop a more logical way of dealing with the problems. Mathway should also help to re-inforce that message and the clear process of solving is easily understandable.

In addition to helping to solve algebra problems step by step, the site also has some great options for:

  • Basic math
  • Pre-algebra
  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Trigonometry
  • Pre-calculus
  • Calculus

In addition there are a series of ‘problem type’ subsections including creating worksheets and using graphs.

There have been some good press reviews and Mathway’s stated goal is to ‘provide step-by-step solutions to all math problems, using the simplest interface possible, across the most commonly used platforms available. Mathway is an ambitious, long-term creative endeavor that will deliver increasing features and functionality over the years to come.’

At the time of writing the Mathway site has been used to solve 229 million problems!
