Enlargements by a scale factor – GCSE maths grade 3

May 25, 2021 by Simon Deacon Leave a Comment

This video looks at GCSE maths enlargements by a scale factor type questions, and is aimed at around grade 3. The questions should be reasonably straightforward, although you’ll need to be fairly precise with your drawings. It’s always good to have a sharp pencil, and a ruler on hand 🙂

Download a copy of the questions here: Quick Test Enlargements

Here’s a copy of the written answers: Quick Test Enlargement ANSWERS

These types of questions appear in all the main GCSE exam boards – Edexcel, AQA, OCR and Educas – and are fairly common for non calculator papers.

Top Tips!

  • Draw the lines of enlargement to give an indication of where the new corners (vertices of the shape) will be located.
  • Don’t forget to write enlargement as part of your answer
  • Don’t forget to work out the scale factor if you asked to
  • Always show your working – including any vectors
